Jennifer Walshe selected for residency at soundSCAPE Festival 2015

The AIC is delighted to announce the appointment of Jennifer Walshe as this year's Irish Artist-in-Residence at the soundSCAPE festival in Maccagno, Italy. The residency is in association with The Contemporary Music Centre, and supported by Culture Ireland.

From Nathanael May, festival director:

"Now in it's eleventh season, soundSCAPE is pleased to welcome composer and soprano Jennifer Walshe to our 2015 festival in Italy this July. We have enjoyed a long and fruitful collaboration with young composers from Ireland who have attended soundSCAPE, and we're thrilled to host this annual residency, now in its third year. Jennifer wields a unique combination as composer and vocalist-performer, which will offer our participants the chance to hone their improvisatory and performance-art skills. We feature a daily improvisation workshop, and our faculty percussionist Aiyun Huang is well known for her forays into theatrical performances of percussion music. This may also be the first reunion between Walshe and faculty soprano Tony Arnold, who both attended Northwestern University in their student days, so Jennifer will be a lovely fit at the festival. Our participant composers and performers attend from around the world, representing six continents. This residency brings a fresh perspective of a variety of musical voices active in Ireland, and has resulted in many collaborative opportunities, in the way of performances and commissions for our participants. We're very thankful to the AIC for their support, and also to CMC and Culture Ireland for making this residency possible!"

Kate Ellis, last year's Artist-in-Residence, performs Barry Guy's Redshift with soundSCAPE faculty member Felix Fan:
